First fruit festival closes in Tien Giang

The first Vietnamese Fruit Festival closed in the Mekong delta province of Tien Giang on April 24. At the closing ceremony, the organising board awarded the Golden Cups for the Cause of Developing the quality of Vietnamese fruits and food safety for 18 businesses, 30 scientists and 40 institutes, schools and branches in the field as well as honoured 61 creative farmers.

The festival also recogised four Vietnamese records the longest graffiti painting of a dragon, the four supermatural creatures in tribute to the 1000th anniversary of Thang Long-Hanoi, the largest map of Vietnam and the biggest dragon gate, all made of fruit.

Tran The Ngoc, Chairman of the Tien Giang People’s Committee and also Head of the Festival’s organising board said that the success of the first-ever festival showed prospect for the country’s fruits. He expressed his hope that more and more Vietnamese fruits will be seen on domestic and foreign markets, thus contributing to raising incomes for farmers and developing the country’s fruit sector.

The six-day festival attracted 800,000 visitors and organised four workshops relating to fruit development and tourism.
