Unlike other forms of tourism, "homestay" is usually held in rural areas, villages with beautiful scenery, rich cultural identity so that there's no need for luxury hotels, spacious lodging nor modern roads. With the advantage of diverse cultures, customs and life-styles, Vietnam has many favorable conditions to develop "homestay". In the last 5 years, "homestay" has flourished such places as Sapa (Lao Cai), Mai Chau (Hoa Binh), Hoi An (Quang Nam).. brought back practical effects.
In Sapa, there are a lot of ethnic minorities residing in Ta Van, Ta Phin, Cat Cat, Lao Chai, Nam Cang.. who have become experienced tour guides. People can make brocade whilecooking, knitting and talking in English with foreign visitors, help them understand more about the life and living of indigenous people. According to the investigation of the International Union for Conservation of Nature and Natural Resources, the funding for projects of sustainable development of tourism in Sapa, there is more than 70% of international visitors to Sapa demanding "homestay". Homestay in Hoi An has recently been highlighted with such names as: Hoa Su (Plumeria rubra), Phong Lan (Orchids), Vuon Trau (Piper betle Garden), the riverside garden, the ancient Sanh Hien house, Wind Chimes.. for the family form of relaxation (family resort). There is also the Lac village (Mai Chau, Hoa Binh province) a bright spot on the tourist map. Come here, visitors will be living in the Thai people stilt houses, weaving with them, and fire dancing booths, fan dance, enjoy the traditional dishes such as baboo tube rice, wine Mai Ha, streams fish, mountains specialties..
