On 28 may 2012, the Nord Wind Airline of the Buryatia has lunched the direct flight to Vietnam with the flight from Ulan-Ude the capital to Cam Ranh the port city by Boeing 767-300 aircraft.
After the international airport Baikal of Ulan-Ude was expanded and upgraded, Nord Wind Airlines has opened direct flights to transport passengers to the famous tourist destinations of China and Mongolia. Next June, the company will open two other direct flights to Antalia of Turkey and Bangkok of Thailan and plan to open similar routes to Japan and Korea.
In 2011, the airport Baikal has welcomed 187,000 passengers and this year is expected to serve 250,000 passengers. The exploiting and managing company of Metropol airport of Buryatia aims to serve 500,000 passengers in 2015. According to the development plan, by 2014, Baikal airport will be invested a total of more than 1 billion rubles (over 33 million US$).
