Phu Quoc International Airport has been built in Duong To Commune, Phu Quoc island district with an area of ​​904.55 hectares, the ability of receiving 3 to 4 million passengers/year, the investment of more than 16,000,000,000 VND by the Corporation of South Vietnam Aviation.
This is the 3rd international airport built in the areas of the South, qualified for the modern aircrafts such as Boeing 777, Boeing 747-400 and the same. The airport will be completed and put into operation in the fourth quarter of 2012, contributing to the development of Phu Quoc island into a center of eco-tourism, sea-tourism and resort at the international standard. With Can Tho international airport, Phu Quoc international airport will help Kien Giang and other provinces in the Mekong Delta area to connect directly to other regions in the country, Asia such as Cambodia, Thailand, Singapore, Malaysia and the countries of Northeast Asia.
On the occasion of inauguration of Phu Quoc international airport, Kien Giang will organize many activities such as investment seminar, national trade and tourism, Exhibition of local products, the green-clean technology, the international tents competition, the tournament of amateurs beach volleyball... and the night of opening the airport. This also is the event chosen as the starting point in the preparation for the organization of the National Tourism Year 2016 in Kien Giang. The event will be organized in a moderate scale as the rehearsals and will then be gradually increased on 2014 and become the 2016 National Tourism Year event.
